LaserDisc Movie Storyline:
THE THIN MAN is the first installment in one of the most successful detective serials in film history, based on the 1932 novel by Dashiell Hammett about stylish sleuthing spouses Nick (William Powell) and Nora Charles (Myrna Loy). Powell and Loy's quick-witted repartee set a Hollywood tradition in their crackling debut as they investigate the disappearance of a wealthy inventor. A blockbuster hit in 1934, THE THIN MAN's convoluted mystery plot moves at a rapid-fire pace that will delight modern viewers. Director W.S. Van Dyke's fast but loose methods helped stars Powell and Loy create great verisimilitude in their marital relationship in spite of the highly stylized script. Even the couple's pet dog, Asta, brings home a finely tuned performance, and the supporting roles are filled with a crew of comical characters. THE THIN MAN must not be missed by fans of the detective genre.

After the Thin Man:
 In this appealing sequel to THE THIN MAN, Nick (William Powell) and Nora (Myrna Loy) return home to Nob Hill, San Francisco, from their detective adventures in New York to find a murder among their very own family. One murder leads to another, and the quick-quipping sleuths and their faithful dog, Asta, are soon buried under a wealth of conflicting clues. The Thin Man films remain one of the few detective series to successfully combine murder with comedy, and AFTER THE THIN MAN matches the quality of the original film step for step. With a nightclub figuring prominently into the plot, AFTER THE THIN MAN offers the added enticement of several songs, including "Smoke Dreams" and "Blow that Horn," while a young Jimmy Stewart turns up the charm and the laughs in a supporting role.

Another Thin Man:
 Nick and Nora Charles (William Powell and Myrna Loy), the wisecracking, hard-drinking upper-crust crime-solving duo, set off to Long Island for a relaxing vacation. But upon arrival husband and wife are summarily summoned to the home of Colonel MacFay (C. Aubrey Smith), who fears that his life is in jeopardy because he has received a death threat from a former employee. MacFay turns out to be correct--someone murders him that very night. One corpse becomes two and then three as Nick and Nora set out to solve a high-society mystery, and their adventure-filled investigation leads them to the lowlife world of gangsters and seedy characters. Can Nick, Nora, faithful dog Asta, and baby Nicky Jr. survive long enough to solve the murders? Few film series provide the same entertainment value over the course of several sequels, but this third entry in the popular Thin Man series is up to snuff in both humor value and suspense.
